Amazing Women

I found two amazing videos this weekend. Both of women that I really admire for their strength and courage.

The first, my sister sent to me, is of Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan showing how Helen learned to speak. I knew that she could sign, but I didn’t realize that she was also able to speak. Both of these ladies are brilliant. I am particularly interested because my undergraduate degree was in linguistics and I also took several classes in speech pathology and communication disorders.

I love how Helen’s expression throughout the video is a such sweet smile. She looks very happy and pleased and a little mischievous.

The second video I found on my friend Alyce’s blog (my fellow linguist) and it is of Anne Frank. The video was taken July 22, 1941, less than a year before the family went into hiding in July of 1942.

In such a media driven world it is so neat to finally be able to see videos of these women who I have looked up to for so long. It makes them even more real to me.
