Prayers for another CDH Family
One year ago today Danny and I found out that Owen had a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. It was a tough day but we were blessed with such a peace that Owen would be ok.
Over the many months since we were diagnosed and through Owen’s arrival and recovery I have met many people who are in the same situation that we were in. One of the main reasons that I started this blog was because I wanted people to have hope when they were faced with this diagnosis that while the road is tough, there are amazing treatments that help these little ones and miracles do happen! Owen is proof of that.
Back in September a woman named Amber posted a comment on Owen’s Story. She had just received a diagnosis that day. After reading Owen’s story, she and her husband were so inspired and so hopeful for their son that they decided to name him Owain (pronounced Owen). I can’t describe the honor that it is to have someone be so inspired by your child that they want to give their own child the same name. We were able to meet with Amber and her husband in the fall to tell them about our experience.
Sweet little Owain was born on January 25. He is doing well and fighting hard. He has pulmonary hypertension which is a problem that CDH babies can get. He will be having surgery in about a week as the hypertension resolves. He is being treated at the same hospital that we were at and we will hopefully get to see them soon.
So many of you lifted Owen and our family up in your prayers. Please do the same for this family. We saw first hand how these prayers worked and I know that Amber and her husband would appreciate it.
Please pray specifically for the following:
Owain’s strength and that his body can recover from the pulmonary hypertension so that he can have his repair surgery soon.
For his parents that they will feel at peace, that they too will have strength. In particular for Amber as she is recovering from a c-section and leaving your baby in the NICU is a particularly emotional and difficult thing to do.
There is a link on my sidebar to Owain’s page. If you would like, please post a comment of encouragement for them.
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.
